“Users can make outgoing Skype voice and video calls, take incoming Skype calls, and also make SkypeOut calls to most phone numbers around the globe,” wrote Gaurav Sareen, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft at a blog post.

The Skype team did not show any concrete program around the calling support on Alexa, although it has stated that the new experience”will begin rolling out later this year.” The advancement is expected to give a different reason to customers to pick an Amazon Echo device against the competition that largely has Google Home versions and Apple HomePod.

Back in August last year, Amazon and Microsoft declared their partnership that is aimed to carefully incorporate Alexa and Cortana to take on Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant. The early signals of the tie-up were shown through the arrival of Alexa on Windows 10 PCs. The expected Alexa-Cortana integration also attained public preview in August. Before this month, the Redmond company also attracted Alexa service to the Xbox One, though the rollout is initially confined to Xbox Insiders.
