Huawei P30 Series Teaser Photos Found to Be Taken by DSLR, Huawei Responds

Huawei P30 teaser photos recently hinted at the phone’s super zoom capabilities.

The macro shots, at face value, were very impressive and were observed to not lose any detail. But now it’s come to light which the photos were actually taken from a DSLR, and not the Huawei P30. Among the photographs was shot out of a photographer’s portfolio and one has been sourced from Getty Images. This unethical practice by Huawei to get a marketing campaign for the P30 series is in bad taste, and undermines the phone’s actual photo-taking skills. After the outrage over the photographs, Huawei has responded saying the photographs weren’t meant to highlight the phone’s camera capacities. Sadly, this is not the first time that Huawei has been caught with a DSLR to misrepresent smartphone sample photos, together with the company causing controversy as it posted fake Nova 3 selfies.

These fake photographs passed as shot in the Huawei P30 series indicates the company in bad lighting, and it had been seen by GSMArena. The volcano picture was taken from Getty Images, along with the kid playing ducks photo was taken from a photographer called Jake Olson’s portfolio. It is fairly possible that the firm purchased copyrights of the photos used in the teaser effort, and didn’t outright steal them, but it still isn’t an specific representation of what the photographs will look like if taken from the Huawei P30.

In an announcement to Gadgets 360, Huawei stated,”We’ve been made aware that there might have been some misunderstanding regarding our recent P30 Series teaser posters. We would like to reiterate that those are, in actuality, only teaser posters, and are just intended to hint in the unique new features that will come with all the Huawei P30 Series. Huawei has got the licenses into the first images and the posters are artistic renditions of stated attributes only.”

Huawei was caught up at a similar controversy a year ago as it used a DSLR misrepresent them as Nova 3 sample photos. Back then, Sarah Elshamy, one of those celebrities in the advertisement, posted photos on her Instagram webpage, and one image revealed a photographer shooting the”on site selfie with a DSLR”.

Huawei P30 camera

Huawei was teasing macro shots capabilities since a while today, and the most recent teaser did just that. One would assume that an OEM would utilize the photographs taken from the phone for the campaign, ahead of the launch, but that is not true with Huawei.

Huawei had lately even shared a photograph of the moon, asserting that it was taken from the Huawei P30, and also the particulars of the moon indicated an upgrade in zooming capabilities. Huawei’s VP of Global Product Marketing, Clement Wong states the photo was taken on-device, handheld, without any extra help.
