New’Operating Procedure’ for Amazon, Flipkart to Ensure Safe E-Commerce Deliveries

Creating the chief operating officer (COO) of firms like Amazon and Flipkart Accountable for Rigorous Execution of social distancing and sanitization Standards and staff compulsorily downloading the Aarogya Setu app are One of the measures proposed in the draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for e-commerce operations Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together with the authorities allowing e-commerce organizations to run during the nationwide lockdown, a draft SOP has been invented and circulated to stakeholders.

“The purpose of this SOP is to provide safety and health advice for cleaning, maintaining hygiene and safety at workplace through a pandemic outbreak throughout the distribution chain, such as First Mile Sellers,” based on the draft standards, obtained by PTI.

The COO, it said, will have the overall accountability for ensuring that the compliance demands of the SOPs.

Also, regional facility and infrastructure manager or similar shall be accountable for carrying out specific tasks while the direction shall be responsible for teaching and communicating the requirements of the SOP guidelines to all stakeholders.

The draft SOP provides for screening of staffers in seller, warehousing and purchase surgeries for COVID-19 symptoms (cough, coughing, fever, breathing difficulty) at entry and instant reporting to local hospital in case of any indicators.

In case of any staff turning out to be positive for COVID-19, the entire facility shall be immediately evacuated and all resources shall be coated and isolated.

“It is mandatory of all employees and business owners to download and register on Aarogya Setu program and if appropriate on the Suraksha Store app also,” it said.

Logbook must be maintained for every single worker and visitor accessing the assumptions.

“Management is responsible for safekeeping of such logbook and forms with detailed information of these visitors, such as name, age, address (current and permanent), proof of residence, mobile number, among others),” the draft SOP stated.

It provides for many employees using handwash / sanitiser at entrance, at regular intervals, and before exit from a centre.

Warehouses and hubs need to run on staggered shifts basis manpower availability to limit crowding. All staff needs to be provided with masks at the entrance by the MSME/ initial mile seller.

They’re also supposed to keep social distancing, particularly at places most prone to gathering, such as loading bays.

“Seller staff to maintain minimal distance of 3 feet by e-commerce 1st mile executive,” it said.

The draft SOP also provides for detailed instructions for cleanup of the premises of sellers, including wet mopping with disinfectant once a day, wiping of all trolleys and other industrial machinery every four hours with cleaning and disinfectant of doorknobs every 2 hours.

All very first mile vendors / MSMEs have to follow FSSAI”s food hygiene and security guidelines for meals industry throughout COVID-19 pandemic.

“E-commerce company shall determine high risk areas/impacted pandemic zones and execute fumigation of warehouse sites by outside vendors at least once every 15 days or if any danger is identified (such as any person visiting the warehouse has been connected with a COVID-19 positive individual ), whichever is earlier,” it said.

Also, vehicles used for delivery have to be washed and norms similar to staff for motorists followed.
During last shuttle client delivery, each shipping staffer/driver must carry business ID card and vehicles used must be cleaned/ sanitised / disinfected.

“Bags utilized by delivery person for carrying shipments will be cleaned before they depart for delivery,” the draft SOP said, adding all shipping staff shall strictly wear masks at all times during delivery and maintain minimal 3-feet distance with customers.

“Cash on Delivery choices should be discouraged as far as you can for all order irrespective of the item or value of the arrangement,” it added.
